The most natural way to document summer
Your boat, your crew, your summer story.
Does your family love spending time on the water? If the boat feels like your happy place—where everyone can relax, laugh, and just be themselves—why not capture that in photos?
I’m now offering boat sessions for families with boats and even couples or maternity portraits would work beautifully.
These sessions are all about documenting connection in a setting that feels natural to you.
Why Choose a Boat Session?
- Family photos but make it fun and relaxed
- Usually less posed, more candid vibe (but we will still capture those posed ones too!)
- Captures your family doing something you already love
- Unique photos you won’t get anywhere else (aka, not your typical “everyone stand in a row” session)
- Think of it as quality time, with a professional third-wheel (or forth or fifth wheel) tagging along
- Kids get to be in a familiar/comfortable place
- You can make it yours-
- have the kids (or everyone!) change into bathing suits a the end and jump into the water
- stop at your favorite sandbar
- or bring your favorite beverage to enjoy for some lifestyle photos
What You Need to Know
- You need to provide the boat and be in control of it/drive it
- Timing matters: We’ll schedule around the tides at sunset, and always plan a backup date in case of weather
- Conditions: Warm, sunny (or at least dry) days are best
- No need to go far from shore- we will stay mostly close to land- it's nice to have it as a backdrop
- Prep: A tidy boat makes a big difference—less clutter keeps the focus on you.
- Length: These take about an hour to an hour and a half
- Ages: Great for babies, kids, and teens. Works best for smaller families (up to 4 kids unless your boat is large)
- Season + Location: Offered June through September, from the South Shore down through mid–Cape Cod
What to Wear
Think of it like a beach family session!
I always recommend-
- Elevated casual—comfortable, but pulled together
- Soft colors, jewel tones, or neutrals all photograph beautifully
- I know blue is easy so if you choose that as the main color, make sure to have another color to compliment or contrast it
- Coordinate outfits without being too matchy-matchy
- Feel free to accessorize with a stylish hat
- Don't forget we could get a windy evening so be prepared for that. (think hat or extra hairspray) I won't cancel because of wind unless it is to the point of being unsafe to be out on the water
- When you book with me, you'll receive my session guide with more help in the wardrobe area
A Few Extra Things to Keep in Mind
- Safety first: If you have young kids, life jackets may be needed while we’re moving and if you feel ok with it, we can take them off once we are anchored
- Comfort counts: Blankets/towels, snacks and water on hand help the kids stay happy
- Golden hour glow: Sunrise or sunset light on the water is magical and worth considering.
- Keepsakes: These photos aren’t just portraits—they’ll become part of your family’s summer story.
Whether your boat is where you spend lazy summer afternoons, chase sunsets, or just let the kids burn off energy, it’s part of your family story—and it deserves to be remembered that way.
A boat session isn’t just about photos; it’s about capturing the feeling of being together in a place you love. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to finally get professional photos that feel relaxed, meaningful, and a little different—this is it.
